Simply Irresistible!

A deep curiosity draws me to this photo, time and again.  I have stared at this picture many times, wondering who these folks are, what was their station in life, and, more than that, why so serious?  It's even difficult to discern the ages, since the women are all dressed alike and are wearing the same hairstyle.  I mean no disrespect, but how different we are today.
