Getting Ready for the Big Day

  1. I am quite proud to say that Thelma Hedgepeth was my maternal aunt, whom I called Mee Maw from the time I could talk. She was my mother's oldest sister, born in 1904, and was 16 years my mother's senior. When their mother died in 1933 after a failed surgery, Mee Maw stepped into the surrogate role of being my mother's mother, for mother was only 13 when their mother passed. By extension, once I came along 20 years later, Mee Maw assumed the role of the grandmother I would never know.

There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of her and the wonderful things she taught me. I was so very fortunate to have her in my life. So very fortunate. Love you, Mee Maw, love you to pieces!
